 Reason for the abortion:
I was very young and clueless. My boyfriend at the time was only 16 years old, we were both terrified at the idea of becoming parents. I would not have been able to provide for a child emotionally or financially. I should not have had sex so young, but naively believed that I had found the man I was going to always be with. We stayed together for a further three years after the abortion and were very careful after that.
How did you feel about your abortion experience?
I told my parents who paid for me to go to Marie Stopes, my boyfriend came with me. I carried a tremendous amount of guilt for many years about having had an abortion, but I do know that it was by far the right decision. I also felt shame and humiliation but I believe this was because I was so young and had had to go to my parents. My parents were very understanding and patient. I am very lucky to have them.
